Meet the nurses who helped pioneer the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in triage. Sophia Henry, MS RN and Heather Gardner, MSN RN, were involved in designing and implementing TriageGO at Johns Hopkins, the artificial intelligence (AI) tool that transformed triage and helped the hospital achieve MAGNET reaccreditation. In this webinar they discuss:
- The inefficiencies at triage that were causing overcrowding in the waiting room
- Initial research indicating problems with the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) system being used
- Protocol changes that were already underway to suit a more ‘outcomes-based’ approach
- Collaboration with nursing-informatics to create the framework for the TriageGO tool
- Important nurse-involvement in developing the user interface of TriageGO
- Subsequent success with the tool, including decreased time-to-provider, time-to-disposition, and improved identification of high-acuity patients when coupled with nurse decision-making
- Where we are today and where we’re going with AI in triage
