Study Showed that Implementation of Scopio’s X100
FF-PBS Application on PBS Samples Saved 12.76
Work Hours per Month

Recent study published in the journal Applied Clinical Informatics evaluated 10,704 PBS samples pre- and post-implementation of the Scopio X100 Full-Field Peripheral Blood Smear™ (FF-PBS) Application. The peripheral blood smear is a rapid and compelling diagnostic tool to gain insights into hematologic disorders.1,2 Previously, scientists demonstrated that using the Full-Field Peripheral Blood Smear™ Application for PBS review resulted in a 60% increase in workflow efficiency over manual review.3 In this study, they compared morphology workflow efficiency, turnaround time (TAT) per PBS analysis, and monthly work hours saved in the hematology laboratory at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (TASMC), which conducts, on average, more than 38,500 CBC and almost 1,000 PBSs per month.

The study found that using a remote analysis approach:

  • Enabled rapid delivery of critical medical information by morphology experts or clinicians outside working hours and beyond the medical center perimeter
  • Decreased morphology turnaround times by 15.8% overall, with a 33.1 — 41.4% decrease on the weekend and a 59.1% decrease on the first workday following the weekend
  • Lowered the backlog of slides accrued over weekend shifts
  • Resulted in monthly cost savings through the reduction of overtime weekday shifts and the ability to eliminate one eight-hour shift at the beginning of every week
  • Reduced the number of laboratory morphology experts required for certifying and signing morphology reports on the first day following the weekend

Remote review was accessible only for authorized users via the hospital's secure network.

Adding Scopio’s fully remote digital peripheral blood smear analysis platform led to a significant improvement in morphology laboratory workflow efficiency, reduced turnaround time, and reduction in required staffing on weekday shifts. Further, the ability for remote digital peripheral blood smear analysis allowed for faster information transfer by clinicians working outside of the facility’s perimeter.
