Building the Best Team for a Sustainable Future

At Beckman Coulter Diagnostics, we’re constantly exploring what’s next, and our commitment to continuous improvement means approaching challenges from multiple perspectives. That’s why we value the differences, passion, and potential that our associates bring to the table. Inclusion & Belonging practices are essential to ensuring that the benefits of sustainability are shared across all stakeholders, including employees, communities, and our society as a whole.

We believe an inclusive environment allows associates to bring their best selves—and their best ideas—contributing to holistic, and lasting sustainability strategies that enhance the diagnostic laboratory’s role in improving patient health.

Our values start with our people. That’s why “The Best Team Wins” is the first of Danaher’s and Beckman Coulter’s five core values. Our people are the most important part of our strategy, and we are committed to recruiting, developing, motivating, advancing, and retaining the most talented and varied team possible.

Sustainability Building

Article: Representing the Communities We Serve in The Teams We Build

From the start, Beckman Coulter Diagnostics has been relentless in driving scientific breakthroughs – not just for the sake of innovation but for people: the patients who count on us, the customers we partner with, and the associates who make it all happen. With global reach and an unshakable commitment to progress, we tackle challenges head-on.

For us, inclusion and belonging are the bedrock of our mission to revolutionize patient care and sustainability. Inclusive teams don’t just work better – they think bigger, creating inclusive solutions that meet the needs of the many, not just the few. This mindset shapes our workplace into a space where every associate feels empowered to show up, speak out, and make a difference.

Investing in People: The Backbone of Sustainability

You can’t build a sustainable future without investing in the people who will bring it to life. At Beckman Coulter, we’re on a mission to assemble a team that reflects the communities we serve.

Teams with a wide range of perspectives deliver stronger performances because when inclusivity is the norm, every associate feels valued and ready to contribute. This doesn’t just enhance workplace culture – it supercharges our product innovation and sustainability strategies, ensuring they’re comprehensive and genuinely effective.

Leadership That Inspires, Not Oversees

Leadership at Beckman Coulter is all about creating an environment where associates feel safe enough to push boundaries and innovate fearlessly.

Launched in 2020, the Danaher-developed annual Day of Understanding encourages leaders to deepen their understanding of various Inclusion & Belonging topics, including cross-cultural communication, bias, micro-behaviors, understanding the needs of associates with disabilities, and raising awareness around neurodiversity. Leaders leave ready with insights to spark real conversations and meaningful change.

By teaching leaders to lead with emotional intelligence and compassion, we’re building a culture where people can bring their whole selves to work. The payoff? Associates who are thriving and contributing ideas that keep us ahead of the curve and pushing the limits of what’s possible.

The Power of Understanding and Connection

We know change doesn’t happen without intention. That’s why we created initiatives like Conversation Matters, a forum where associates tackle relevant and important topics head-on - from mental health and work-life balance to the individual experiences of our associates.

Our teams also participate in the Danaher-led Associate Resource Groups (ARGs), which take these conversations and support even further. These employee-led groups have a particular mandate to build connections, amplify voices, and deepen cultural understanding across the organization. We additionally have local groups like WISE (Women in Service Engineering), where female engineers come together to share insights and strengthen their professional community. Some groups are regionally focused - for instance, during Heritage Day, discussions on cultural and familial experiences help strengthen ties for the Beckman Coulter team in South Africa. These resources connect team members together to deepen understanding and compassion.

Sustainable Teams for a Better World

We can’t deliver game-changing diagnostics or drive global health innovation without investing in our people. Our scientists, engineers, and innovators are building solutions that save lives because they’re supported by a workplace that champions inclusion and belonging. Bringing together different voices helps challenge assumptions, broaden thinking, and build products that truly work for everyone. That's how we're shaping a sustainable future.
