Specification for Integration of Biomek® FX 16-Position Heat/Cooling ALP

Overview

The Biomek® FX 16-Position Heating/Cooling ALP is used to provide 16 temperature-controlled labware positions on the deck of the Biomek FX. The ALP is designed specifically for use with the Biomek FX.

In order to ensure that customer expectations are fully satisfied, the following information has been compiled to summarize the functionality of the device.

The warranty for this custom integration is one year from shipment. This includes Beckman Coulter-supplied hardware and software. This warranty applies for the integration to the version of hardware, firmware, and software originally integrated. Any changes to the components that cause the integration to no longer function properly are not covered under this warranty.

The warranty applies to the system and system software versions (including Biomek FX) on which the original integration was installed. Although our goal is for all modules to be forward compatible, this cannot be guaranteed for custom integrations. Any upgrades to the system (including Biomek FX) that cause the integration to no longer function properly are not covered under the warranty for this integration.

Functional Description

The Biomek FX 16-Position Heating/Cooling ALP locates and locks onto the Biomek FX deck, similar to standard ALPs. The 4X4 ALP (four columns, four rows) will consume the middle three columns of the Biomek FX deck. The ALP provides a temperature-controlled surface, which will accept up to 16 pieces of Biomek FX-compatible labware. Each piece of labware will be positioned to allow pipetting. Labware can be transferred to and from the Biomek FX 16-Position Heating/Cooling ALP similar to other standard ALPs.

Note: Individual temperature control for each labware position on the ALP is not available. 

Device Control

The Biomek FX 16-Position Heating/Cooling ALP does not require any device control. A customer-supplied circulating bath accomplishes the heating/cooling. The application requirements should be considered when choosing a circulating bath; keeping in mind there will be heat loss between the circulating bath and the ALP.

Additional Specifications

Microplates Any 384 well or lower density labware that meet the SBS dimensional standards. Reservoirs are also accepted that are within the SBS footprint.

NOTE: All labware will not have the same heat transfer characteristics. Labware that maximizes surface contact with the thermal exchange surface will transfer heat more efficiently.
