1935 Founded as National Technical Laboratories in Pasadena, Calif., USA
1950 Renamed Beckman Instruments, Inc.
1952 First public stock offered
1954 Moves headquarters to Fullerton, Calif., USA
1982 Acquired by SmithKline Corporation (Philadelphia, PA, USA) as a wholly owned subsidiary
1988 Relisted as a public company on the New York Stock Exchange, with SmithKline Beckman retaining 84 percent ownership
1989 Becomes a separate, public company with distribution of remaining shares to stockholders
1997 Acquires Coulter Corporation (Miami, Fla., USA), the leading manufacturer of in vitro diagnostic systems for blood cell analysis
1998 Changes name to Beckman Coulter, Inc.
