Delsa™Nano Zeta Potential and Submicron Particle Size Analyzer

A New Generation of PCS and ELS Instruments

The DelsaNano series is a new generation of instruments that use photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS), which determines particle size by measuring the rate of fluctuations in laser light intensity scattered by particles as they diffuse through a fluid, for size analysis measurements and/or electrophoretic light scattering (ELS), which determines electrophoretic movement of charged particles under an applied electric field from the Doppler shift of scattered light, for zeta potential determination.

This series has a broad range of capabilities, including conventional static and automatic titration measurements for both size and zeta potential distributions of suspended particles in a wide range of size and concentration. The DelsaNano also can measure zeta potential of a solid surface or film.

Zeta Potential Distribution Measurement of Concentrated Suspensions

This is the first instrument in the industry that measures zeta potential distribution of concentrated solutions using ELS. It uses the patent-pending forward scattering through transparent electrode technology (FST) to measure zeta potential of particles in various suspension concentrations up to 10 percent or higher depending on particle size. Because of the Brownian broadening of scattering spectrum at high scattering angles, the common practice in measuring concentrated samples using back scattering cannot be used in zeta potential measurement. The FST is the only known technology that can measure zeta potential of particles in concentrated suspensions.

Zeta Potential Measurement of Solid Surfaces or Films

This is the first in the industry that measures zeta potential of solid surfaces or films using ELS. Surface charge or zeta potential of bare, treated,or coated solid surfaces or film such as glass, metal, metal oxide, ceramics, etc. in liquid can be measured using DelsaNano. A unique approach in DelsaNano makes these measurements possible.

Broadest Size and Concentration Ranges and Highest Sensitivity

The DelsaNano series can measure particles as small as 6 Angstrom and as large as 7 micron with molecular weight as small as 267 Dalton in a concentration range from 0.001% to 40%. It uses precision optics to avoid light intensity and coherence loss due to fiber optics collection. The utilization of both log-scale and linear-scale correlators makes measurement of broadest size range possible.
